Heavy frigate Wappen von Hamburg I (1669 g) 1:75
Album description
Heavy frigate "Coat of Hamburg I" was built in Hamburg in 1667-1669 by an unknown Dutch craftsman. The construction of this warship was due to the need to have a convoy for the protection of the merchant fleet of Hamburg (Hamburg), which numbered at that time about 200 tons. Continuous naval wars of the Netherlands, England, France and Spain in the XVI-XVII centuries for domination of the seas, as well as numerous pirates who had bases in Algeria, Tunisia and Tripoli, forced merchant ships to be sent under military protection. From 1669 to 1683, the "Coat of Arms of Hamburg" participated in the escort that headed for the west and the Spitsbergen Archipelago. The ship exploded on October 10, 1683, on the roads of Kadiks near the Gibraltar Strait from a fire that arose from an unknown source. During the battle for salvation, a vessel of a total of 220 killed 64 crew members, including the legendary Admiral Karpfanger who did not leave the ship remaining faithful to his oath. The main dimensions and armament of the Hamburg Emblem I frigate are as follows: the length between the shafts is 34.85 m, the width is 8.90 m, the draft is 4.50 m, the weapon is 54 guns of various calibers.
